When: Sat., April 24, 2-4 p.m.Where: via ZoomFill your kitchen with the aromas of Karachi as we cook a Pakistani meal together.Our two-hour journey, led by Chef Instructor Kausar Ahmed, will feature three dishes and keep you cooking for the duration of the class. As we cook, your party host, Shelby Reynolds, will facilitate a casual interview so we can learn more about Kausar's love of food, her childhood home of Karachi and her work with local refugee and immigrant communities.Class attendees will be provided an ingredient list in advance, along with some short food prep steps. Also in advance of the class, you will be invited to pick up a signed copy of Kausar's cookbook "The Karachi Kitchen" and the spices needed for our time together. (Contact-free pick-up will be set up on Shelby's covered porch.)We will be cooking Kulcha Bread (a traditional flatbread), Raita (a yogurt sauce) and Dum Kay Pasanday (a slow simmered beef tenderloin). A vegetarian substitution will be suggested as well.You will finish the class with a meal for your family's dinner simmering on the stove and stories to reflect on as you dine!Kausar Ahmed is a cookbook author, food and prop stylist, chef, and cooking instructor with over 25 years of experience in culinary arts, education, and advertising. She is an internationally-acclaimed entrepreneur who has taught culinary classes to over 300 public school students in Karachi, Oakland, Los Angeles, and New York. Her culinary program in underprivileged communities in Karachi, Pakistan is focused on training women in culinary education, healthy eating and hygiene, empowering them and supporting them to set up small businesses.Kausar is an educator at heart and is a Chef Instructor at Project Feast, a local non-profit that empowers refugees and immigrant cooks through hands-on culinary training and education.
