The Salish Coast Elementary School Production Garden Program

The main beneficiary of our 2024 Auction is the
Salish Coast Elementary School Production Garden
at the Port Townsend primary school

While their large exterior garden is already up and functional, we will help create a professional, permanent greenhouse , so the kids can learn all year how to grow and appreciate food. The produce grown will contribute to their school lunches and any overflow will go to the Food Bank, teaching the kids not only how to support themselves, but also how to support their community.
The school established gardens in the front yard in 2019 for classroom activities, fresh vegetables, and fruit production. The produce goes to school lunches or local food banks.

It has a unique relationship with the FoodBankGrowers.org -- who supply volunteer help and administrative backup to the garden managers.

The production garden next door grows fresh food to prepare and then distribute to Salish Coast, Blue Heron, and PT High School students.  The large garden offers:

  • On-site composting machine
  • Raised beds
  • Hoop house for growing... with a new up and coming greenhouse!
  • Washing and prep station
Channel King 5 in Seattle recently did a nice story about this garden.  Click here https://youtu.be/rN6AfCu4bNI?si=iMmQkOlRaw4b1Ha7
